Jungle Gem

By Jesse Hughey

Published on July 17, 2008

Master photographer and naturalist Frans Lanting amassed a collection of beautiful, vibrant photos from 20 years in the field, taken everywhere from the Congo lowlands to the cloud forests of the Andes. Personally, I'm excited to see that jungles still exist, as I was under the impression that they all disappeared, leaving rain forests in their place--sort of like how America no longer has swamps, since they were displaced by wetlands. Jungles: The Photographs of Frans Lanting is on exhibit through August 3 at the Irving Arts Center gallery, 3333 N. MacArthur Blvd. in Irving. Admission is free. See irvingartscenter.com for gallery hours.
